I go about life thinking about this one question, hoping to get answers from the higher powers. I don’t believe in god as an entity with an identity but I believe there is someone out there who is looking out for me. And so I seek. But what is the truth that we all seek in our lives? And is it possible to ever seek it fully without reaching self actualisation?
I think there are various truths that I have received as answers and various other ones that I am building upon. Whenever I talk to a person, I look too deep into their eyes to try and figure out their intent. What motivates them to go ahead in life, what is it that they want to build and break? I do this because I once lost the will to live. And when I do catch that fleeting sense of someone else’s purpose, I fall in love with my life more! A lot of people I have met want to make a difference. There is a whole industry that thrives on doing this. We call it social work, where we all get together to support a ‘cause’. We teach underprivileged children or underserved communities; we take our time to meet animals in shelters and the elderly in shelter homes. And then we try to make sense of the change we brought about in their and our lives. Through this, we elevate to a level where we can make a change on a larger scale. We study or work with organisations that help us facilitate this. We are doing good for others, for sure but are we bringing about a change and making a difference?
I like talking to people because when I do , I get to know them better and maybe even become a friend. When I do get really close to them, I try to understand what makes them happy and sad. What is it that they absolutely hate about the world and what do they wish to become in this life. Most of the people I’ve met do not like fakeness. Has that become a common phenomenon in today’s time, or is it just that we are all so lonely, we all want to fit in. Thus we become versions of ourselves in different groups so that we belong for some time; we get a sense of companionship and belonging. We get to move closer towards happiness and clarity. And that is why when you meet someone and they appear fake to you, they are just a version that you can’t make sense of! We are all trying our best to fit in and belong while figuring out what differentiates us.
Someone once told me that not
everyone is looking for a purposeful life. Most of us don’t even understand the
meaning of purpose, they said. I beg to differ. We might not know we are
looking for a purpose that guides us, but we all do things that add up to
something. We talk to a particular group of people because they make us happy.
We happily post-trip memories on Instagram because we exist in reminiscing and
then we take a social media detox because we feel vanity has overcome us. We
travel to the hills to become one with the heights of being and the calmness lost
in city life. We sometimes also turn to beaches to flow with the ebb and flow
of the sometimes calm, sometimes turbulent water. We want to escape from our
homes because we want to find ourselves and ‘feel independent’, but a few days
without home food make us homesick. We all need a cushion, but we all are
looking for a purpose. My purpose is my truth.
